Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS RESOMATION ?

Resomation is a method of final disposition by water for both humans and animals. The scientific name for this process is alkaline hydrolysis. A combination of water flow, temperature and alkalinity to accelerate the decomposition of all organic materials.

IS RESOMATION SUSTAINABLE ?

Resomation is much more sustainable than cremation or burial. Resomation emits up to 83% less CO2 than cremation.

STERILE ?

Unlike other disposition methods, disposition by resomation is 100% sterile. Thus, the surplus will never come into contact with third-party organic material.

WHAT REMAINS BEHIND ?

After resomation, a powdery residue is left behind, similar to the ashes of a cremation; in addition, all proteses and implants are left sterile. The next of kin are free to dispose of these, similar to the ashes of a cremation.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK ?

At the end of the process, only the skeleton remains, and the process water, called Effluent Residual. The sterile process water is released for recycling (our bodies are initially about 80% water) and the vessel performs a fresh water flush for the equipment and residue. When the operator opens the door, only the inorganic bone minerals remain. The skeleton is processed into very small particles and returned to the family in an urn.
